Ultherapy: A Non-invasive Lift to Sagging Skin

by redentor | Ultherapy

Ultherapy is an FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment for skin tightening aiming to lift the brows, jowls, neck, and décollete. Ultherapy is a non-surgical alternative that uses ultrasound energy to stimulate the body’s own natural healing process to tone, lift, and tighten loose skin on the face, neck, and chest.

This procedure uses ultrasound technology to deliver focused and precisely placed energy to the deeper layers of the skin which in turn promotes collagen production and strengthening. Ultherapy stimulates the bodies’ natural healing response promoting the production of new collagen. Being non-invasive, Ultherapy leaves virtually no evidence that you had the procedure done – no scars, no peeling, no blisters.

Understanding Ultherapy

To understand how Ultherapy works, it is vital to appreciate how important collagen is for our skin. By the average age of 30 years old, we begin to breakdown collagen at a rate of about 1% every year. As collagen production slows our skin loses elasticity leading to sagging and crepey skin.

Ultherapy works differently from other lasers that target the superficial layers on the skin which aim to improve texture and pigmentation. Ultherapy bypasses the surface of the skin and delivers energy to the deepest layers resulting in the lifting of sagging skin. Ultimately, Ultherapy causes damage to the collagen layers of the skin and this in turn regulates new collagen.

Since Ultherapy is a non-invasive procedure treating the deeper layers of skin, it offers no substantial downtime. Side effects may include mild to moderate redness and swelling, temporary soreness, and possible bruising. You can return to work immediately, however, your skin can look slightly irritated and puffy but this will subside within a few days. It is strongly encouraged to wear medical grade sunblock anytime you go out in the sun after the procedure to protect the collagen that is being stimulated by Ultherapy.

Ultherapy Results

Results will kick in over the course of 2-3 months with some patients reporting continued improvement for up to 6 months. While ultrasound does not duplicate the results of surgery, Ultherapy is an effective alternative for those who are not yet ready to turn to invasive treatments.
